Business Language Champions Project Background information The Business Language Champions scheme is a national initiative, supported by DCSF through CILT, the National
Centre for Languages. The aim is to inspire and motivate young people to learn languages, especially within a
meaningful world-of-work context.
As at September 2008, there has been more interest in Yorkshire & The Humber from both employers and
education partners than in other region of the country:
- approx 40 employers have agreed to provide assistance since November 2006
- approx 150 educational establishments have been involved
- over 5500 students have been engaged
A collaborative approach by RLNYH and the region’s Education Business Partnerships has provided the essential
support for both employers and education partners to establish useful working relationships. We are now building
on this strength and have integrated the programme into the Yorkshire Universities Consortium 'Routes Into
Languages' project. << Back
