Leeds-based Peter Cook International has had a helping hand in establishing a strategy for export from Dutch student, Lidewei Mulders, who has been working for the company on a placement organized by the Regional Language Network Yorkshire and Humber in conjunction with Derbyshire Chamber. The company was taken over in November 2005 by its present owners and supplies furniture components to furniture makers and distributors.

Peter Cook International currently has 20 employees at two offices in the UK, a head office in Leeds, and a second office in Nottingham. The company's main export markets are Ireland, Scandinavia, Asia and also the Caribbean and South Africa.

Lidewei has conducted an extensive survey amongst past and present customers to identify the needs of the export markets in particular and ensure that the product ranges are adapted to the various markets. The survey resulted in some interesting feedback and gave the company the opportunity to take a look at itself as it is perceived by its customers which has helped greatly in forming an export strategy for the future.

Her expertise in Relationship Marketing and focused approach have been invaluable to the company and her experience on her placement will help her to write her final dissertation and enable her to complete her studies.
