The European Language Portfolio is a document which provides a single collection point for evidence of all an individual's linguistic and intercultural skills whether gained inside or outside of formal education. First published in Summer 2002 and in use throughout Europe, the ELP is ideal for use in:
business language training programmes

adult, further and higher education

vocationally-related language courses

The UK ELP for personal and work-related language learning was revised in 2007 and now includes work-related language checklists and new pages on approaches to different cultures.

The Language Passport
Provides an overview of the individual's proficiency in different languages at a given point in time. It describes language competencies and records significant language and intercultural learning experiences, information on partial and specific competence as well as formal qualifications.

It allows for self-assessment and trainer assessment. The Passport describes levels of competence according to European standards and the standard presentation of the Passport Summary further promotes pan-European recognition and mobility.

 

The Language Biography
Encourages the learner to plan, reflect upon and assess his/her learning process and progress; it encourages the learner to state what he/she can do in each language and to include information on linguistic and cultural experiences gained in and outside formal educational contexts.

 

The Dossier
This allows the learner to select materials to document and illustrate their achievements or experiences recorded in the Language Biography or Passport including examples of personal work and/or witness accounts which illustrate the language competences.
